Penne with seitan ragù

In italian cuisine, there is a meat sauce usually consumed with pasta or gnocchi: the ragù, internationally (and improperly) called "bolognese sauce".
Grandmothers love to cook it in big pots, for a long time (sometimes even for a full day), because the minced meat needs to boil with tomato until it's reduced and this process take some hours. You can also add some chilli, rosemary, basil or other herbs and spices... it depends on your tastes and on the recipe you're following, there are a lot of different kind of ragù in Italy.
But there's another tasty way to make ragù: using seitan instead of meat. The best seitan ragù is made with a soffritto of onion, carrots and celery, with the addition of zucchini when the other ingredients are already lightly browned.

This is what you'll need for the soffritto. Then, just add in the bowl some chopped seitan, and olive oil. It will be ready in ten-fifteen minutes.

So good! The best idea is to cook a large amount of sauce at one time, and then freeze little portions, so you can have it ready when you don't have much time to cook.
It's a wonderful solution for a meat-free pasta and it's easily digested.

Stockholm recap

This summer we decided to spend our one-week-holiday in Stockholm, Sweden.
It was wonderful, the city is beautiful, the food was delicious, and everyone in Sweden is so kind, pretty and good-looking! Ok, it's no surprise that Sweden is a cool place, but we wanted to see this wonderland with our own eyes... and we had a blast!

Mini-language course on a blackboard in our hostel. Hilarious and absolutely useful...

1 // Lovely wurstel packaging :)
2 // Best sushi we have ever eaten. With free miso and tea.
3 // Cecilia drinking a blackberry smoothie and eating some salad. On a fabulous wallpaper.
4 // Two lobters made out of bread, in a shop window.
5 // A delicious snack in one of Gamla Stan bars (the old town).
6 // A tipical swedish dinner, a Räkmacka (a shrimps opened sandwich) and a boiled potato with sour cream and salad.
7 // Compositions with cookies in the morning.
8 // Kanelbullar: swedish cinnamon buns.
9 // Another traditional meal: another Räkmacka, a salmon opened sandwich and some Kanelbullars <3
10 // Waffles are always good. Especially if you are in an amusement park! Yeeeeeaaah Grona Lund was so much fun.
11 // Fudges are always good too!
12 // This is a Rocher fudge.

Look at that restaurant! We were on the top of a building!

We could live an entire life in a place like this, definitely! But it's so cold.
For now, we prefer to travel there during the summer :)
Have a good thursday!

Sunday trip lunch

We went on a little trip last weekend, up to Conegliano, Veneto. It was incredibly hot and we were desperately hungry because we couldn't find a restaurant or a bar (it was sunday) but finally, we succeeded! We had lunch at the old castle's bar with a salad, two eggplant toasts and a plate of prosciutto and melon.

We really enjoyed the place and recommend you to check it out if you're in the area. Here is the website to the retaurant (yes they have a regular meal menu if you don't get there after 3pm!).

Saint Seitan Salad

Summer is here!
It makes it so much easier for us to make prettier stuff to eat. Like this dish: a hot seitan salad with chopped tomatoes, carrots, chickpeas and a little soffritto. To accompany it and stay fresh, we used the remaining chickpeas to mix them in a cucumber salad. We topped it with some mint and olive oil.

It's a really good dish 'cause it fills you but you don't feel stuffed. And it was good to finally be able to eat in the garden!

Winter is Over

Hey Boys and Girls,
we've been pretty busy lately, so pardon our slow updates, we promise we will make it up, starting from now!

These are a first course and dessert: a zucchini, cipollotti and black olives patty, made with delicious homemade short crust pastry.

And these are small shapes of sweet bread filled with apples and strawberry jam, topped with some cocoa.

Oh, by the way, it's finally summer so we are starting to photograph our food outside again, stay tuned :)

Green Menu

Our first "official" interview! :)
The World Through Green Eyes an online magazine about photography and nature, dedicated some pages on our blog! We reccommend you to check it out here.
Here are the pictures we used for the article, a menu based on the color green.

To start off, a green lasagna made of four different layers: pesto, spinach and ricotta, scamorza, and topped with parmesan cheese crust. Then, skewers with lightly fried artichokes and the remaining scamorza. For dessert, homemade cookies with pistachio ice cream.

All you see below had to be cooked (and eaten) on two separate days: way too much food for us!
Anyways, it was a great experiment, we found the recipe for the lasagna online, but we gave our own twist to it.

And these are the ice cream sandwiches, it was really hard to say no.

Consider this our easter present! Enjoy your holidays and please spare the lambs.

A squirrel's paradise

We just realized we've had these pictures on our computer since October! These photos were taken on the same film roll as the pumpkin soup photos we showed you in January.
Cecilia went outside, in the country all around her family house, looking for some good hazelnut with the idea of making some bread, or a cake. She never cooked anything... but she made an enormous stock lasting all winter long.

Finding them was fun and easy.

Enjoy the weekend!

Soon

This gorgeous cookies are a little anticipation of a "green menu" we created for The World Through Green Eyes, a web megazine and a blogzine talking about nature, photography and hot girls in the wood. We can garantee for the first two and maybe for the third with some make-up.
Anyway, we are happy because it's supposed to be 20° degrees outside, we can't believe it's true, this winter seemed to be endless. It's finally time to shoot photos outside!

We all are waiting the release of the new TWTGE number (in the meantime, there's another one of these choco guys left in the fridge...)
We seriously loved the menu we cooked, can't wait to show you all the pictures.
Have a good day!

Yummy finds! #2

Sometimes we post random nice stuff (about food as usual) we find on the web. Like...

You know we love skulls. And tea. These sugar skulls are so cool that it's sad to use them. They're by Dem Boner. What a great idea!

This one is for the ladies - a watermelon skirt and a tutorial explaining you how to thrift it. You can find it on  Delightfully Tacky, it's easy, and it's funny to create something with your hands.

We love this packaging for Sabadì (sounds like Saturday in italian)! These chocolate bars are called “cioccolato di Modica”, a typical sicilian way of making chocolate. Designed by Happycentro, a creative studio from our area.

Every child loves removable tattoos. But sometimes adults too... Tattly has so many different tattoos, and this kitchen set is one of our favourite. They are super cute, we also love the Menagerie set (they would be fabulous if they were real!)

In love with this.

We are not into junk food, it's unhealty, ethically wrong and it makes you fat, but hey... this is really a good job! David Iglesias, designer and illustrator of Tender Creative in Manhattan, redesigned the packaging and the existing icon system of Burger King's products:

Choco birthday

Some days ago we celebrated Cecilia's birthday. This is a quick little post to show you this photo of our private party with the family :)

Cecilia prepared some muffins with chocolate and coconut, covered with a white chocolate glaze, and a cherry. They looked really pretty.
Have a good weekend! We promise to post new stuff soon

The day Mattia almost died in the National Gallery.

We promised London, we'll give you London.
Since breaking traditions is bad, and we are good people, we decided to make fish & chips the main dish of our english diet.  Twice in five days, which is a good average.
Oh don't worry we ate sweets too, but we justify them by saying we needed to drink a hot cup of tea.
But our, of course, was a business/cultural trip so we went to the National Gallery but Mattia didn't see much of it cause he had too many fries five minutes before walkin in, and felt like he was gonna die.
*Personal note: please never eat fried food and pretend it was nothing then quickly pay, walk out in the cold, run on the stairs, walk into a museum smile and start looking at renaissance paintings: you will immediately start puking.

So here they are :)
Enjoy.

This is a snack break we had in Brick Lane. Swedish restaurant called Fika

Guess who had which one...

Reason of Mattia's fainting.

Ciao, Ciao :)

Ooops are we late?

Cecilia had these pictures stored in a folder for a while, and just realized we've never posted them! On halloween I spent the morning picking up hazelnuts with my friend Martina. We came back home and decided to use some of the pumpkin to make pasta. Pasta alla zucca :) We chopped a quarter of it in big pieces and cooked it in the owen for about 20 min, then stir fried it until it became a soft salsa.

Sorry for the late update: we've been busy, and stay tuned for the images from London!
